The Cheat Sheet To Find Your Hair Type
We have a cheat sheet that helps you determine your hair type, The layout is from type 1 to type 4 and following this layout out there are also “subtypes” and these subtypes get more specific helping determine your hair type and learning how to care for it.
Like me for example I have type 2A hair, Its not too hard to manage but it is prone to have tons of bad hair days. Which leads me to chemical treatment solutions that help me manage and in the long run I started to realize it was only a temporary fix leading to long-term damages. On my journey looking for long-term solutions i’ve gotta say these products have been a life saver.
1st Hair Type – A, B and C
If you have hair type 1 then you have generally straight hair.
- People With Type 1A hair find it fairly difficult to add texture to their hair because it is straight with no bend or curls, leading them to use tactics such as perms and curling irons and whatnot.
- people with Type 1B hair is more or less the same as 1A with some slight differences, small curls and light bounce and slightly easier to curls and play with with the help of chemical enhancements.
- people with Type 1c hair is a combination of 1A and 1B and can generally be affected by weather conditions and humidity but that’s not always the case.
2nd Hair Type: A, B and C – Here come the tools.
Generally this hair type has some waves to it. The scale will help you determine where you land.
- Hair Type 2A Generally has thin fine waves starting at the crown of your head and forms down towards the middle of the head, not much texture though.
- Hair Type 2B also start at the crown, However the waves are more defined and forms an S shape descending towards the tip. This type of wave has a tendency to frizz given its texture.
- Hair Type 2c Is wavy from the crown to the tip and is generally speaking thicker than usual, the texture is more of a curl or a ringlet. This particular type of hair is extremely prone to frizzing.
3rd Hair Type – A, B, and C
The 3rd hair type is something most people want the most, We all want the thick bouncy curls, the general look tells us that we have strong and healthy hair, unfortunately we can’t all have it, it’s all about genetics.
- Hair Type 3A are big spirals, loose with shiny curls with a springy look and a soft texture with a well defined S shape to it.
- Hair Type 3B has more volume and density, much tighter curls ranging from corkscrew to ringlets. curls are a bit tighter curls.
- Hair Type 3C will appear to be greater in volume and density due to its much tighter corkscrew shape.
4th hair Type – once again there is A, B, and C
People with an ethnic background tend to fall into this category as far as hair types. It leads us to using chemical enhancements to tame the craziness. - Hair Type 4A Is a distinct S shape with a tight curl, the hair type is usually dense with a springy coil. Usually coarse and thick.

- Hair Type 4C is very dense and very thick and coarse, very little definition in the curls though. this hair type tends to frizz very badly and can range from wiry to coarse. Its important to note this hair type is fragile and can be easy to lose.
